Lamellar Keratoplasty (LKP)

The FEMTEC laser system offers the operating physician a great variety of options and new approaches to keratoplastic treatment. Besides offering the possibility of adjusting incision depth and varying the diameter, the patented patient interface enables the treatment of severe and irregular astigmatisms. The FEMTEC Laser is a clear improvement on existing procedures and sets a new standard in corneal surgery. With the FEMTEC Laser, treatment of the human eye is much less traumatic than with any other known procedure, since the shape of the patient interface is spherical and does not require applanation. Both the donor and recipient cornea are cut using matching treatment parameters. This ensures that an optimal match is achieved.

This new surgical approach leads to a significant reduction in corneal endothelial stress.

A wide variety of possible configurations in incision cuts may make suturing of the corneal lamellae superfluous in the future. Three-dimensional corneal incisions are now emerging as a distinct possibility.
